It is not a surprise as there has been so much publicity about it. Even the BBC reported it a week ago when it was announced and also today. They mention it as her come back single and then they go on about the free britney staff.
I have never seen the BBC promote another artist like that apart from Adele. Most artists don't get a mention when they release new music.

The media are definitely protecting her from any negative stories. They just report the things that make her look good in the public eye. I have just done a Google search and that's obvious in the articles that came up. All you see is supporting comments from other artists , her ex being charged with gatecrashing her wedding and so on. There is nothing about the crazy posts and erratic behaviour. They are building her up for a major come back and anything that can tarnish her image gets brushed under the carpet.
